Are you feeling stressed?
While living a completely stress-free life may not be achievable, there are a few things that you can do to help reduce your stress significantly. The New Year provides us with the perfect opportunity to make some positive changes and set goals, also known as a New Year’s resolution.
In this article, we’re going to review some of the best New Year’s resolutions to make if you wish to live a happier, more relaxed, and stress-free life.
Reduce Stress with Sleep
Does it feel like it has been years since you last felt well-rested? A lack of consistent sleep may be contributing to your stress levels. Set yourself up for success with a realistic bedtime routine that you can commit to.
Your routine should start at least an hour to an hour and a half before you would like to fall asleep and can include:
- Disconnecting from technology
- Turning a fan on
- Wearing comfortable pajamas
Some find that certain music or sounds can help them sleep. Such as a thunderstorm, rainforest, or white noise loop.
Your bedtime routine should set your body up for about eight hours of sleep to help reduce stress and live a healthier, happier lifestyle.
Engage in Regular Self Care
Many feel added stress due to the fact that they are simply worn out and burnt out. The key to your stress relief in 2020 might just be engaging in regular self-care.
While self-care may look different from person to person, here are some activities that you may find rewarding and stress-relieving:
- Disconnecting from technology
- Meditating or yoga
- Soaking in a hot tub
- An outdoor physical activity
- Pampering yourself
How will you engage in self-care?
Do What You Love
After making time for all of the things you have to do, wouldn’t it be nice if you could take some time for the things that you love to do?
In 2022, make time for the things that bring you joy to reduce your stress. Whether that be going for more bike rides, spending time relaxing in a sauna, or joining a dance class, you owe it to yourself to fill your life with the activities and hobbies that truly make you happy.
While many aim to get active when the new year rolls around, the goal is often to lose weight or live a healthier lifestyle.
While these are wonderful goals and health benefits to having, engaging in regular activity can also help you to reduce stress. The frequent release of endorphins can do wonders for your mental health, while improving your physical health, too.
Set yourself up for success with a realistic goal and plan that you can commit to. Many find that starting small and building momentum is the best practice, as they can slowly adjust their lifestyle without taking on too much too fast.
Try exercising twice a week for a small amount of time and increase both the number of days and length of the workout as time moves forward. This will increasingly challenge your body and provide you with more of an opportunity to work off your stress.
Soak in a Hot Tub
Do you have a hot tub sitting in your backyard? Relaxing in it on a regular basis might be just what you need to reduce stress.
Aim to spend at least 20 minutes relaxing inside the spa several times a week to lower your feelings of stress, boost your mood, and improve your overall quality of life.
