Keep Your Hot Tub Covered

Seems obvious, but keeping your hot tub covered is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to keep it clean when it’s not in use. The hot tub cover not only keeps out leaves and dust, but it also preserves the life of your spa.

We recommend cleaning the cover about once a month with a garden hose to remove any loose debris and dirt and then use a vinyl protector to extend its life and look.

Clean Your Filters

If you want crystal clear water each time you step into your hot tub, clean your filters every three to six weeks. Start by placing your hot tub in “hold” mode, then remove the filter cap, plate and cartridges.

Using a high-pressure garden hose, spray clean the fabric filtration material. Work from top to bottom on each pleat.

Change Your Water

It’s a good idea to change the water in your hot tub every three to four months.

  1. Before you begin, find an area in your yard that can drain a large quantity of water, and be sure to avoid areas that could lead to water damage.
  2. Next, disconnect the power and attach a garden hose to the drain valve to drain the water away.
  3. While the hot tub is empty and dry, you should aim to give it a deep cleaning, but more on that later.
  4. To refill, place your garden hose into the filter compartment and turn it on to fill your hot tub.
  5. Once the tank is full, replace all necessary chemicals and cleaning products.

Clean the Spa Shell Surface

Any time you drain your hot tub, you should use the opportunity to do a deep cleaning of the interior and components. It doesn’t take long, and when you clean the interior on a regular basis it prevents build-up at and below the waterline.

Simply use a recommended cleaning product from your local hot tub store and wipe the acrylic with a damp sponge or cloth. However, don’t use an abrasive cleaner or applicator or a product that contains bleach.
